Digital Painting final

For my piece I was inspired by Gabrielle Münter’s ‘Jawlensky & Werefkin’. Blending Impressionism and simplified contours with minimal individuality to create a dreamscape that blends reality and art in multiple different ways. I blended 3 images together on photoshop to create the setting, and added 1 of my own but decided to cover it in procreate with the oil paint brush setting. I wanted my piece to feel like a dream, blurred faces and the impressions of things that make sense but seem almost surreal. At first I wanted to focus on image overload, but as I kept working in my piece I decided I wanted to make something that blended both detailed images and simple impressions. I wanted to disrupt the perfect photographs with painting. I thought this was the perfect way to incorporate intense colours and pay homage to the original art work that I based it off of. My idea was to have Jawlensky and Werefkin having a fun beach day, adding backstory and even more personality to the original. While some parts of my piece I really tried to blend seamlessly in photoshop, I thought the harsh brushwork was a fun juxtaposition that enhanced the contrast. I worked a lot with colour grading at the beginning, but let myself have more freedom to just play on procreate near the end. Creating something beautiful that I’m really proud of. This piece was intended to be fun, and playful. I hope the colours and the subjects transfer those ideas.
