Photo Book-Inspiration

This project has been so much fun for me. Using photo shop and looking at different works from different artists has been so helpful and inspiring. I actually had a poetry/photo book I got a couple of years ago, and I always wanted to do something similar. It’s called “Film For Her” by Orion Carloto. This is my favourite book I’ve ever owned. There is a mixture of photography on film, and also poems written by Carloto. I’ve always found it so inspiring and it’s always made me excited to create art.

There are many photos in this book that she does not show her own face. Like our assignment this feels like a self portrait of her. Filled with her thoughts in the form of poetry, but also filled with her life, her friends, her simple surroundings. I kept this in my mind while creating my images inspired my analog film.

I also find another specific piece showed in class very inspiring to my project. Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O’Keeffe, 1919. This photo really stood out to me, I find its subject and composition striking, especially for the year it was taken. It feels like it could have been taken in our time. I love the idea of photographing just the hands—that’s exactly what i did in my project.

I really enjoyed Gregory Crewdsons (1985-2005) work from the library I loved the colours and how each series of images told a story. These didn’t feel like random photos but instead specific moments captured. There is so much character in the images and I find a lot of inspiration from the composition.

I just finished editing my images for my second photo book, I found a lot more inspiration for those images in the media I looked at . I look forward to looking deeper into the self portrait of my ID photo, and seeing what ideas I can come up with.
